Welcoming Shona McDonald to the MDMSA Industrialisation Committee.

The Medical Device Manufacturers of South Africa (MDMSA) is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Shona McDonald to the MDMSA Industrialisation Committee.
At the intersection of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) 2030, Ms. McDonald brings decades of pioneering leadership in inclusive MedTech, local industrialisation, and manufacturing excellence.
NDP 2030 emphasizes economic transformation, high value manufacturing, and equitable access to healthcare.
Ms. McDonald’s work exemplifies these priorities by turning advanced engineering and ISO compliant manufacturing into life changing assistive technologies.
As Founding Director of Shonaquip (Pty) Ltd / ShonaquipSE and leader of the Centre for Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), she operates a SAHPRA licensed, ISO 13485 certified, and FDA registered manufacturing facility.
Her team designs and builds context responsive medical devices that meet stringent international benchmarks (CE, EU MDR, ISO 7176, ISO 16840) while actively developing and commercialising homegrown African innovations.
“To fulfill the goals of NDP 2030 and build a sovereign healthcare sector, we must harness local STEM capabilities to scale context appropriate medical devices, create skilled manufacturing jobs, and eliminate our reliance on imported healthcare technologies,” says Ms. McDonald.
Join us in celebrating Ms. McDonald’s appointment as we strengthen South Africa’s medical technology footprint and build an inclusive, globally competitive MedTech ecosystem.
