Cape Town, South Africa – 30 August 2026
Shonaquip Social Enterprise (ShonaquipSE), a leading South African organisation dedicated to improving access to assistive technology, has announced the availability of selected products through Amazon South Africa, creating a new and convenient purchasing channel for essential accessories and replacement parts.
The launch represents another step in ShonaquipSE’s nearly 30-year mission to improve independence, dignity and participation for children and adults with disabilities. While selected products will now be available through Amazon South Africa, SSE’s specialist clinical services, customised mobility solutions and person-centred approach remain at the heart of the organisation’s work.
Founded from a mother’s determination to find better solutions for her child living with cerebral palsy, ShonaquipSE began with a deeply personal understanding of the barriers faced by families seeking appropriate assistive technology. That experience developed into a broader movement to improve access for thousands of children and adults across South Africa, particularly in underserved communities.
Today, ShonaquipSE continues to combine lived experience, clinical expertise and innovation to ensure that people with disabilities receive appropriate solutions that support independence and inclusion.
“Every family deserves access to the right support at the right time,” said Shona McDonald, Founder and Managing Director of ShonaquipSE. “Our journey began because I experienced firsthand how difficult it was for families to find appropriate solutions for children with disabilities. What started as a personal need became a commitment to ensure that other families would not face the same barriers alone.”
She added: “Amazon South Africa gives us another opportunity to make selected products easier to access, while our clinical expertise and personalised support remain unchanged. Technology can help remove barriers, but the human connection, assessment and understanding behind every solution remain essential.”
The Amazon South Africa storefront will provide access to selected ShonaquipSE accessories and replacement parts, supporting customers who require easier purchasing options for products that contribute to everyday mobility and independence.
The launch aligns with ShonaquipSE’s broader commitment to innovation and accessibility. Recently recognised on the Forbes Accessibility 200 list, the organisation continues to explore new ways to expand its impact and reach more communities.
“Accessibility is not only about creating solutions; it is about ensuring those solutions can reach the people who need them,” said Shona McDonald, Managing Director. “This is another step in our ongoing commitment to making assistive technology more accessible across South Africa.”
